For their safety, absolutely NO children under 12 years of age are permitted in food handling areas. Children between the ages of 12-16 years of age are permitted to volunteer only if they are accompanied by an adult guardian.  

For your safety, covered shoes must be worn in the sorting room and warehouse areas. Flip-flops, sandals and open toe shoes cannot be worn and no one will be permitted into these areas without proper shoes.

Volunteer Opportunities at the Foodbank:

We are excited to announce that we are currently recruiting volunteers for a Food and Fund Drive Team.

This will be a specially-trained team of volunteers, capable of working special food and fund drive events as they occur. Training is required for this elite team, and a commitment to participate in at least 1 event per month as needed, is also required. We will begin scheduling training for this team very soon.

If interested please email Heather Hockey at hhockey@foodbankonline.org or call her at 757-314-4581. The volunteer hours for events will include mostly weekends and evenings.

Sorting Room Team Leaders:
Individuals needed to volunteer their time 3½ hours (from 8:30am-12:00 noon) one Saturday every other month working as part of a four person lead team. This team would guide & supervise weekend volunteer groups in food sorting tasks. Training will be provided. Individuals must be willing to commit to 4 training sessions and be willing to work a minimum of 3 ½ hours – one Saturday every other month. 32 needed

Sorting Room:
Volunteers are needed to assist in the inspecting and sorting of food product while checking expiration dates and container integrity.
Days and hours:
· Monday - Friday, 9:00am - Noon & 1:00pm - 3:00pm
· Saturday - 9:00am - Noon
· Monday evenings - 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Groups encouraged.

General Warehouse:
Volunteers are needed for general warehouse work aiding staff members in pulling and staging daily agency orders, general cleaning of the warehouse and facility. Some tasks will require the ability to lift and move cartons weighting up to 50 lbs.
Days and hours:
· Monday – Friday, 8:00am - Noon & 1:00pm – 3:00pm
Need: Ongoing

Distribution:
Volunteers needed to condense bins to keep them stocked, assist agencies with loading orders into vehicles; sweeping and mopping when needed and assisting on scale on Monday evenings.
Days and hours:
· Tuesday – Friday from 7:30am to Noon
Need: Ongoing

Kid’s Cafe:
Basic office skills. One volunteer needed to assist with filing, matching pick tickets, copying and other basic office duties 1-2 hours a week.
Days and times are flexible 1 volunteer needed

Friday Distribution:
Volunteers are needed every Friday morning from 8:30am to 11am to assist in the distribution of USDA commodities at the Foodbank. Duties include completing required paperwork for clients, assisting with bagging fresh food items when available, assisting clients in getting food to their vehicles, and registering clients for Food stamps when requested.
