Feeding America® (formerly named America's Second Harvest): Feeding America is the nation's largest charitable hunger-relief organization. It's a Network of more than 200 Member food banks and food-rescue organizations serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The Feeding America network secures and distributes nearly 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually. Click here for more information

Congregate Nutrition Services: Aimed primarily at persons 60 years and older, who are mobile and not homebound, this program provides nutritionally balanced meals and educational information on nutrition to older persons at congregate nutrition sites. The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP): The purpose of this program is to provide food to low income households, supplementing other food assistance programs and purchased foods. Members of the Federation of Virginia Foodbanks handle these foods in our state.

The Federation of Virginia Food Banks: The Federation of Virginia Food Banks is a state association of food banks affiliated with Feeding America. The Federation is composed of the 7 regional Virginia and Washington DC food banks, consisting of facilities in 14 strategic locations. The Federation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation created to support the food banks in providing food, funding, education, advocacy, and awareness services and programs throughout the Commonwealth. Food Stamp Program: The Food Stamp Program is the nation's largest food program, available to all families and individuals with gross income below 130% of the federal poverty level. For more information call the local Social Services Department. Click here for more information

Home-Delivered Nutrition Services: This program is targeted to persons 60 and over who are homebound, and their spouses, regardless of age. Priority is given to those in the greatest economic or social need, with special attention to low-income minorities. Call the local Aging Agency. Click here for more information

School Breakfast and Lunch Program: Free and reduced price meal benefits are determined on a sliding scale. Reimbursement rates are established annually. For more information call your local School Administrators Office.

The Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC): The WIC Program improves the health of Virginians by providing them nutritious foods at vital times - during and after pregnancy, infancy and early childhood. Click here for more information

The United Way of South Hampton Roads is a local, autonomous nonprofit organization run by a volunteer board of directors representing all areas of our community. Click here for more information

USDA Donated Food (Commodities) Program: Administered by the State Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services donated foods from the US Department of Agriculture to eligible schools, institutions, summer camps, summer feeding programs, and to soup kitchens. Click here for more information
