WalMart Fight Hunger Spark Change

April 6 - May 3, 2015

From April 6 to May 3, 2015 Walmart is teaming up with some of America’s favorite food manufacturers to fight hunger and spark change across the country. Through the 2015 Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign (formerly, Fighting Hunger Together) the public can raise money for Feeding America member food banks through three easy ways: in-store purchase, register donations and social media. The campaign will run in all U.S. Walmart stores and will give Walmart’s more than 250 million customers the opportunity to help fight hunger in their local communities.

In-store Purchase

One item helps provide one meal. Walmart is working with: Campbell’s, ConAgra Foods, General Mills, Kellogg’s, Kraft and Unilever with a goal to raise 75 million meals for Feeding America food banks. Between April 6 and May 3, the purchase of approximately 70 participating grocery products at Walmart will trigger a donation. For each product purchased, the manufacturer will donate $0.10 to Feeding America to help secure one meal on behalf of local member food banks.

Register Donation

Walmart customers will also be able to make donations at the register on behalf of their local Feeding America food bank. Signs at the register, will allow customers to donate in increments of $1, $2, or $5 to their local food bank.

Social Media

Share your smiles to raise funds for the entire Feeding America network! During the campaign, Walmart will raise awareness about the one in six people struggling with hunger in the U.S through a social media challenge. All food banks stand to benefit! Here’s how it works:

Take a picture of six people who commit to fight hunger
Post the picture on either Facebook, Twitter or Instagramuse the campaign hashtag #wesparkchange.
Make sure your post is public to ensure it can be counted
Walmart will donate $10 for every qualifying post, up to $1.5 million!
Share your post and encourage your advocates, volunteers and donors to participate

NALC Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

May 9, 2014

The 23nd annual National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive will take place on May 9, 2014.

How can you help?

On May 9th, your local letter carrier will be doing more than dropping off your mail. Simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, like canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal, next to your mailbox before the time of regular mail delivery.  Your letter carrier will pick up your donation and it will be delivered to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia to support those in need in our community.

Click here for a list of our most needed items!

Spread the word

You can do more than just donate food!  By spreading the word, you can help increase the amount of much-needed food that will be collected.  It's a quick and easy way for the whole community to get involved in fighting local hunger.  For more information about the food drive and ways that you can spread the word, please visit the official Stamp Out Hunger website.
